How Obafemi is making his dreams come true
DATE: 18 October 2018
When Michael Obafemi made his Premier League debut, he was only seventeen years old. Becoming the second youngest player to make his Saints debut, the Irish footballer is just getting started.
Born in Dublin. Raised in London. Transferred to Southampton FC at sixteen. Premier League debut less than two years later. You can’t call Michael Obafemi’s rise anything less than meteoric. Coming off the bench in a draw against Tottenham Hotspur, Obafemi became the second youngest player to appear for Southampton in the Premier League. When you’re only eighteen, anything is possible and dreams are big: "I’d like to achieve over a hundred Premier League appearances and become top goal scorer in the Premier League". But Obafemi knows it’s a long road to get there "I need to make sure to establish myself and become a name to remember first!"
You’re gonna get set back in your career. You just have to the right mindset to comeback and give it everything you got.

Every kid wants to play in the Premier League. I’m fortunate to have done that.
"Making my Premier League debut was a special moment in my life. It really was like a dream come true. Every kid wants to play in the Premier League and I’m fortunate enough to have done that. Hopefully, I get more opportunities to play in the Premier League this year." After his debut, Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino had some kind words for the striker. He mentioned his "spirit" and good finishing as Obafemi’s most important qualities. That spirit is something that Michael knows is important to make it in the world of football: "You’re gonna get set back in your career. You just have to have the right mentality and a strong mindset to come back. Just make sure you work hard and give it everything you got".
